Growing up with a lot of people and with limited funds, I learned to be creative early on, mixing and matching prints that people told me didn’t match.  It worked for me! That was the onstart of my creative journey—seeing that I could play with colors and patterns effortlessly.   Lack of funds for designer clothes encouraged me to be creative with what I had.  Fast forward to 2017, and the inner

create at all times.  I create opportunities to heal when I teach yoga, and I create tasty vegan meals to heal my body.  I am a lifelong learner.  I absolutely love the color purple.  I love that I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and I love connecting with family and friends.

HEY THERE

I'm Meeks!

Throughout my life, I always knew I was different. Born into a low economic status in Brooklyn, New York, I knew early on that education was my conduit to changing the narrative of poverty. Educated in the public school system of NY, I, myself, would eventually go on to teach in the NYC public school for 17 years.

During these years of service, I encountered many students who were eclectic like me—but had no creative outlet. I began learning about color therapy and sought ways to enhance my classroom environment. The change of colors shifted the energy in the classroom encouraging  students to tap into their self-love, academic prowess, and artistry. Over time, I saw an improvement in their behavior and academics and this led me to start my brand, Breuchkelen Eclectic!

Before Brooklyn was spelled the way it is today, it was spelled Breukelen, which means “broken land.” Because Brooklyn has been synonymous for going hard and being tenacious , the "ch" sound in Breuchkelen is used to represent and emphasize the sound of the letter "K."

The Creative Process

Everything matters when creating, from wearing a color that makes me happy, to my jewelry selection to my bright lipstick choice. I may break out in prayer, meditation, yoga, or dance, it all depends on my mood. After about 20 minutes or so, I am charged and ready to channel my positive energy into my pieces. Stopping periodically to walk away and come back to see things from a different point of view really helps me to stay creative. The pieces set for a day or two to fully dry and I create a painting mood all over again.
