Art is Just Doing—Let it Do Its Thing

As a crocheter, one of the biggest challenges for me is choosing the color. Even worse, when you don’t have the color you need.

Now you have a few options when this happens: you could buy more supplies in the color you want, or maybe you can take a risk and let your brain flow.

Sure, you may not like the result of the product, and that is a sucky feeling. But what is it not art if it’s not the act of doing? The final product is something to show for it.

There have been many times in my creation process, whether that be writing or making my crocheted hat, I found myself in that situation where I ran out of the yarn I had, or repeating the same sentence over and over. Then I take a deep breath. And then choose not to give up. Choose a different color, allow myself to take a step back, and reenter my flow state. It does not have to be perfect. Art isn’t what it’s perfect.

Art is the act.
